L’Alhambic (1650) — Tel. 04 79 08 09 85

This is situated at the far end of 1650, on the left hand side as you walk up from the Tourist Office, opposite the Le Marquis building. The restaurant was refurbished in 2003, and specialises in Savoy favourite dishes, plus a wide range of other dishes, and a good wine list. At our last visit, we tried frog’s legs, snails, a cheese fondue accompanied by wild mushrooms…mouth-wateringly excellent!

L’Ambassad’Or (1650) — Tel. 04 79 08 24 04

Located next door to Sport Gliss, near the Sherpa supermarket, this is the only restaurant to open out of season, and is open every day of the year. You can choose from a wide range of excellent pizzas, to more traditional dishes from the Savoyard region. The hosts are friendly and welcoming, and you will enjoy a reasonably priced meal here.

Le Caveau (1550) — Tel. 04 79 08 09 42

Situated between the gondola and the ski school, Le Caveau offers a typical rustic Savoy setting, the excellent food matched only by an extensive wine list. We have eaten here several times, and have never been disappointed. You do need to book a table, though, at busy times of the season.

Le Darbeilo (Le Praz 1300)

If you hop on the free ski-bus down to Le Praz one evening, we would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Situated in one of the side streets, the building is one of the oldest in Le Praz, with some real character. We have eaten here several times, and have always enjoyed their delicious cooking. Watch out for their speciality liqueurs—we were once served a schnapps from a bottle containing a snake!

L’Ours Blanc (1650)

For reasonably priced meals during the day, one of the most popular eating places in 1650 is L’Ours Blanc (The Polar Bear) at the foot of the Ariondaz gondola. This is a brasserie, with plenty of space to sit inside, or we prefer to eat outside where you can watch the skiers. They also provide a take-away service, where you can buy panini’s, hot dogs, chips etc.
